 | Barolo, Ditta Giacomo Conterno D.O.C. 1968 (72cl) Condition: Excellent levels and labels
Claiming the title "Wine of kings, and king of wines", Barolo is produced in province of Cuneo, south-west of Alba, within the Piemonte region. It is made from the Nebbiolo grape variety in the communes of Barolo, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d'Alba and parts of the communes of Cherasco, Diano d'Alba, Grinzane Cavour, La Morra, Monforte d'Alba, Novello, Roddi and Verduno (all in the province of Cuneo). Only hillside vineyards with the correct orientation and slopes are considered suitable production and the terrain must be primarily calcareous clay.
Barolo typically smells of pine, tar and roses and can take on an orange tinge with age. When aged for at least five years, it can be labeled a Riserva. For connoisseurs it is Italy's most collected wine.
