AOC Medoc, Cru Bourgeois

We tasted Cissac '05 at the Château in October 2009 and were stunned by the sheer quality of this Cru Bourgeois (Superiore). Frankly at this price it's a steal. None of the harsh licorice finish that Cissac can exhibit, it is an archetypal claret. Unctuous with perfectly balanced fruit and tannins and a superb rich finish. It needs at least 2 hours in a decanter (six hours is ideal) after which your patience will be rewarded by a cracking food wine (beef, lamb, salty cheeses, hearyty casseroles, etc). Great cellaring potential too (up to 10 years).
