	Abadia Retuerta We met Abadia Retuerta on a trip to the region in September 2006 and were completely bowled over by their wines (as well as their welcome and hospitality). To describe the wines as 'world class' would be an understatement. The Seleccion Especial 2001 won Best Red Wine Trophy at the International Wine Challenge, making it simply .... the best red wine in the world! The walls of the tasting room were peppered with awards and trophies and justifiably so. The winery is just down the road from the world famous Vega Sicilia - Spain's legendary winery - and enjoys all the same benefits in terms of climate and terroir. At Abadia Retuerta, meticulous attention is paid to the cultivation and production of their wines and with the most state-of-the art winery in the world, they are able to consistently produce the very best from their 700+ hectares of terrain. And the staff at the winery are the icing on the cake - warm, friendly and fiercely proud. All in all, the perfect ingredients for these fantastic 'Super-Douro' wines and little wonder that their winemaker, Angel Aocibar was judged 'Winemaker of the Year' at the 2005 International Wine Challenge. 	Abadia Retuerta Rivola 2006 (75cl) This wine arises from a careful selection of Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from the best plots on the estate. Ageing for twelve months in casks highlights its unique character. Its personality makes it a pleasant, warm, complex wine, perfect for tasting and drinking any time, especially with tapas or lamb. 	Abadia Retuerta Seleccion Especial 2004 (75cl) Winner of the International Wine Challenge Best Red Wine Trophy and Spanish Red Trophy, this amazingly full and well balanced wine is a triumph of winemaking. Black forest fruits intermingle with licorice and warm soft spices. Incredibly smooth tannins balance perfectly and leave a long velvety finish. It is huge, filling the palate with rich black fruits with hints of cedar and coffee and offers a long and potent aromatic finish. 	Abadia Retuerta Pago Negralada 2003 (75cl) The first scents are potent, of crystallized fruit, followed by that of aromatic herbs and delicate wood. On the palate, this wine has a full finish, with sensations of quince and crystallized figs. It is a wine of great richness, with a great aging potential for the future.
