BORGO SELENE Nerello Mascalese/Nero d`Avola 2009
The Borgo Selene wines are made and blended by Alberto
Antonini at the Curatolo family winery, and represent superb value
for money. The name derives from the word for .moon. in Greek,
illustrating the influence the Greeks (who also brought the vine to
Sicily) have had on the Mediterranean.s largest island.

Produced from selected grapes grown in two different vineyards: one
near Marsala and one near central Sicily. The Curatolo family currently
has over 100 hectares under vine.

In Marsala, autumn and winter rainfall was above seasonal averages.
In April and May, there was a slight delay in budding and flowering.
Summer temperatures were slightly higer than usual but good diurnal
temperature range aided development of the grapes, preventing
stress from summer heat. Medium to high yields produced excellent
quality wines similar in style to 2008.

Fermentation and maceration took place in 500 litre fibreglass vats.
The must was macerated on the skins for ten days at a temperature of
24-28°C. It remained on the lees for a month before being bottled.
Bright ruby red in colour with fresh vibrant notes of red berry fruits.
Round and smooth on the palate with soft, ripe tannins.
