| CARMEL WINERY Appellation Old Vine Carignan, Carmel 2006 Carmel Winery was established in 1882 by Baron Edmond de Rothschild of Château Lafite fame, and is one of the oldest companies in Israel. Sourcing grapes from over 300 vineyards throughout the country, many in cool climate high altitude sites such as the Upper Galilee and Judean Hills, Carmel has become a byword for quality and consistency. From the highly acclaimed Carmel Limited Edition, the companys flagship wine, and the stylish Single Vineyard series of wines, to the Carmel Ridge range, the companys team of internationally trained winemakers has amply demonstrated Israels tremendous potential as a quality wine producer. All wines produced by Carmel are both Kosher and Vegan.
Grape Varieties 90% Carignan 10% Petit Verdot
Food Matching Note: Has the warm spiciness to partner a wide range of Mediterranean dishes, lamb on a skewer, fried potatoes and beetroot salad.
Tasting Note: This medium bodied wine shows a complex blend of cherries, rapberries, freshly ground coffee and Mediterranean spices, with soft tannins and a long finish.
Vinification Note: The Appellation series of wines from Carmel features a collection of regional wines offering an expression of varietal flavours from particular wine growing regions. The labels feature biblical fauna in hand-drawn style. The Carignan is harvested from 30+ year old vines in the Zichron Ya'acov area (near the coast, between Tel Aviv and Haifa), whilst the Petit Verdot is from Binyamina. After a traditional vinification, the wines are aged for 12 months in oak barrels.
