| CECCHI Teuzzo Chianti Classico, Cecchi 2007 The Cecchi family trace their winemaking roots to 1893 when Luigi Cecchi set up his own business as a wine taster and broker in the Poggibonsi region. In the 1970s, Cecchi moved to Castellina in Chianti, an area which has traditionally produced Chianti Classico. Since then its reputation has gone from strength to strength becoming one of the leading producers in Tuscany and beyond. The Cecchi family now own four properties: Villa Cerna in the Chianti Classico region Castello di Montauto at San Gimignano Val delle Rose near Grosseto, in the Tuscan Maremma, the production area for the Morellino di Scansano Tenuta Alzatura at Montefalco, in Umbria
Since 2004, following the death of Luigi (the son of the founder), his sons Cesare and Andrea, along with their mother Anita, have run the company with enthusiasm and passion.
Grape Varieties 90% Sangiovese 5% Cabernet Sauvignon 3% Canaiolo 2% Colorino
Food Matching Note: The wine ages well, especially at a cellar temperature of between 15° and 18° C. Best served at 18° C it is fantastic with roast red meat and game dishes.
Tasting Note: This wine has an intense, red ruby hue with good clarity and viscosity. The aromas are persistent, with evident primary aromas of red fruits bound to evident notes of vanilla, violets and spices. On the palate Teuzzo reveals a good structure which is accompanied by notes of young oak well integrated to mature varietal fruit.
Vinification Note: The vines of the single vineyard Messer Pietro di Teuzzo are situated in Chianti Classico, at an altitude of 290 metres above sea level. The grape varieties planted are 90% Sangiovese, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% other red varieties. A carefully controlled vinification, lasting about 21 days of maceration on the skins is followed by a gentle crushing. The wine is then aged in small oak barriques over a period of 12 months, followed by a further few months in 40 hectolitre casks. A period of 3 months in bottle completes the ageing process.
