| Château Rauzan-Ségla, 2ème Cru Classé 2006 Grape Varieties 54% Cabernet Sauvignon 41% Merlot 4% Petit Verdot 1% Cabernet Franc
Food Matching Note: The perfect partner for rich red meat, try it with rack of lamb, grilled pork chops, venison or duck. Will also partner rich cheese.
Tasting Note: Vibrant purple in colour, the nose is packed with brambly fruit with elements of smoke and coffee. Round and supple with finely textured tannins structuring the midpalate alongside spicy red berry fruit and well defined oak influence. Classic, approachable claret style.
Vinification Note: The grapes are harvested by hand; fermentation and maceration take place in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, which lasts about 3 weeks depending on the vintage. During the period of fermentation, the wines in the tank are pumped over the cap twice per day. The wine then sees 20 months of aging after malo-lactic fermentation, in barriques from the Tronçais forests of France. During the aging period, the wines are racked every 3 months to remove sediments. Once barrel aging is complete, the wines are fined with egg whites in the traditional manner before bottling.
