Excellent with levels into / at the base of the necks and good labels (some very slightly torn).
Messias was founded in 1926 by Messias Baptista, who served as chairman until 1973. The management is still held by the descendants of the Messias family. Since its foundation, the company has been producing and selling high quality wines from the main demarcated regions: Bairrada, Douro, Dão, Vinho Verde, Beiras and Vinho do Porto. Messias is based in Mealhada, a small city in central Portugal, in the heart of Bairrada region. Here the company has approximately 160 hectares of vineyards. It is one of the few groups which produces and sells a complete range of wines and spirits from the finest Portuguese regions as well as its own estates.
Despite being a fairly prolific vintage, 1979 was not declared by the bigger port producers, making this a rare example.
We have great tasting notes below for this Vintage Port and have no hesitation recommending it. A great gift for a Vintage Port connoisseur.
Tasting Notes (from the winery)
Golden colour, concentrated aromas with touches of dried fruit and chocolate nuances. In the mouth it is concentrated and elegant with an excellent finish.
