Chile
Chile is now the world’s 5th largest wine exporter with a reputation for making quality wines at excellent value. It started in the 16th century through the Spanish invasion but owes much of its recent success to the arrival of the French in the 19th century. With the protection of the Andes, it is well placed to produce excellent wines across all the major grape varieties including its own unique Carmenere. In 1994 Chile started to define its wine regions to help as a guide to the many styles of this impressive area.
