Apart from Port, Portugal, has only recently begun to emerge onto the wine stage, with changes in technology, styles and attitudes. Its success owes much to the indigenous grapes such as Touriga Nacional, Tinto Roriz and Bastardo in red, and Alvarinho, Arinto and Verdelho in white. Regions such as Dao, Algave, and Lisboa lead the way. The reds in particular are intense, full bodied, fruit filled wines that are delicious. The whites are lighter, soft, fruity with minerality, citrus, and floral tones.
