Wairarapa

Waiarapa, Maori for Glistening River, is in the lower right-hand corner of the North Island of New Zealand, and is divided in to three winemaking sub-regions, Masterton, Gladstone and Martinborough. From North to South it measures about 35km, with 27 different wineries, including Urlar, Ata Rangi, Dry River & Escarpment vineyards. Waiarapa is the original home of New Zealand Pinot Noir, and although vines were first planted in 1883, Waiarapa’s modern wine production really only dates from the 1970s.
