Central Valley

Chile’s main wine producing area, the Central Valley, has four sub-regions. The Maipo, the most widely cultivated, is known primarily for Cabernet Sauvignon, the Rapel in the Colchagua province, where mostly Carmenere and Cabernet are grown, Curico, which grows red and white, though is best known for Chardonnay, and the Maule, where better known red varieties are slowly replacing the local Pais grape. From Colchagua comes Santa Luz, who make excellent single variety wines that drink equally well with food or on their own.
