Côtes du Rhône
The Appellation of Côtes Du Rhône extends some 125 miles from Vienne to Avignon and is intended to catch all the lesser known vineyards in that area. It is largely known for its fruity, mid-weight, reds, a blend of the Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Red now has a vast following with other grapes such as Carignan, and Cinsault performing well. It’s not all red, since Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Rousanne and Marsanne make pretty impressive. Look out for famous names such as Châteauneuf, Hermitage, Cornas, Saint Joseph and Condrieu, the queen of Rhône whites made with 100% viognier.
