Domaine de Chazalis
La Domaine de Chazalis is a small, family run, vineyard, located in a small village in southern France named Beaulieu, meaning ‘Beautiful Place’, a befitting name for such a quaint area.
The vineyard was taken over by Gérard Champetier in1972 after his brother was struck by lightning. Gerard, along with his son Richard, work very hard to continually produce wines of exceptional quality, whilst still finding the time for his hobby of restoring old cars.
With around 30 hectares of vines, the winery produces a wide range of grape varieties and from them, a wider range of wines. The grape varieties grown are: Merlot, Syrah, Grenache, Cinsaut, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Viognier.
The wines produced cater to all areas of the market, with a top end Merlot, Cuvee Passion, which has the power of a big New World red, whilst maintaining the characteristics of a fine, elegant, Old World wine. Its ‘little brother’ the Cuvee Richard, is more of an every day wine though still of exceptional quality, drinking as well as a high end Bordeaux. Their Sauvignon Blanc caters for those who like a fresh, dry white, then there is their Viognier, bringing a sweeter, more floral note. A perfect rosé for those hot summer afternoons, the Gris de Grenache Harmonie and a fuller rosé the Gris Selection for those who like something a little fruitier. They also make some sweet wines, both rosé and white, which can be enjoyed at the end of a meal either on their own or with dessert, the rosé can also be enjoyed as an aperitif. These are a small selection of the wines produced at Chazalis. There are many more, including a wide range of reds.
