Graves lies to the South of Bordeaux and the Garonne river and is named after the local gravelly soils. It is the only Bordeaux region to have a Grand Cru in both red and white wines and it produces a great range of classic reds and whites from dry to the rich sweets of Barsac and Sauternes. In reds, the mix is usually led by Cabernet Sauvignon or Merot with Cabernt Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot in the background. In whites, Semillon dominates, particularly for the sweets with Sauvignon and Muscadelle – a classic area, classic wines.
