St Julien is a community and appellation (AOC) in the Médoc region of Bordeaux. It is a small commune with the smallest production of the Médoc areas though it has the highest proportion of classed growths. To the North is the famous Pauillac commune known for its robust, powerful wines. To the south, Margaux known for its softer, smoother, more feminine wines. St Julien wines gradually move across those characteristics as you move south delivering a complex mix of wines of great quality. The Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the blends with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and very occasionally, Carmenere being used in the blends to suit each Château. Wines such as Château Talbot, Château Beychevelle, Château Leoville Barton and many more show the complexity and quality of this amazing district.
