South Africa
South African wines come from the Cape Province, where the conditions are absolutely ideal for vines, but it has taken time to develop the industry to its potential. Now it ranks as a major wine producer across a vast range of grape varieties, qualities and values. The Chenin Blanc (Steen) has led the way in whites and the Pinotage for the reds, but most classic varietals are now grown. Key areas like Stellenbosch, Paarl and Constantia have led the quality drive though this is still an up and coming region to watch.
