Umbria is one of Italy’s smallest producing regions situated in the Apennine hills. 20% of their production is DOC wine and within that, their most famous wine is Orvieto. Made predominately from the Trebbiano grape with other whites using Malvasia, Verdello, and Malvasia grapes. Reds include the up and coming DOCG region Montfalco Sagrantino using the Sagrantino grape. There are also reds from Sangiovese, Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon. Investment is going into Umbria so look out for more quality wines.
