About
Made in the foothills of the Pyrenees, Castarede Bas Armagnac is a blend of three grape varieties, Ugni Blanc (which is used for Cognac), Colombard and Folle Blanche. Armagnac itself is divided into three districts, Bas Armagnac, Armagnac and Haut Armagnac. It is the oldest distilled brandy-spirit in France with reference to it made in the 14th century by a Cardinal who extolled its healing and other properties including curing gout and hepatitis, healing wounds (by applying it to the skin), preserving youth, enlivening the spirit and loosening the tongue!
Aged for most of its life in barrel, the 1979 vintage is deep in colour with an amazing aroma and is powerful in the mouth with extraordinary length. The whole is dominated by concentrated fruit and round tannins.amber in colour and has enormous power with complex flavours of concentrated, dried fruits with extraordinary length in the mouth. Our Views
A very reasonably-priced treat, Castarede Vintage Bas-Armagnac 1979 would make a great gift. Just make sure you get to share a nip after-dinner.
