Glenturret is located just outside the highland town of Crieff in Perthshire, known as the gateway to the highlands. It is the oldest distillery in Scotland and was founded by the Drummond family - a name still prevalent throughout Crieff and the area. Prohibition in the United States in the 1920's resulted in the collapse of Glenturret and the distillery in 1927. It was 30 years before the distillery found an interested buyer, though by 1960, whisky was in production again under the ownership of James Fairlie. In 1990, the distillery changed hands again, though this time to Highland Distillers, owners of The Famous Grouse.
Glenturret is still made today and, as well as being used to blend into The Famous Grouse, is sold as a single malt at the distillery which also houses 'The Famous Grouse Experience', an interactive tour showing the full distillation process followed by a comprehensive tasting.
Extremely rare, this is from Glenturret's original pre-1990 bottling before the distillery was acquired by The Famous Grouse. It is highly collectible.
