Levels at top shoulder or better and good labels.
Saint-Estèphe is at the northernmost of the six communal appellations in Médoc which include Pauillac, Margaux, and Saint Julien.
Château La Commanderie is one of those hidden gems of Saint-Estèphe, which has remained reasonably priced while many other prestigious appellations of the Médoc have become inaccessible. In 1956, Gabriel Meffre, then a nurseryman, fell in love with the region and bought his first hectares of vines next to Château Montrose. Claude Meffre succeeded his father in 1996 and is now responsible for the management and development of the estate. It maintains a Cru Bourgeois classification whilst the terroir enjoys a serious quality that gives it an exceptional character.
This is not a wine we have tried though the appearance is great and compared to other Saint-Estèphes, is great value for money.
