Château de Lafaurie Monbadon Côtes de Castillon 1989 75cl

From Castillon which is a satellite Bordeaux appellation not far from Saint Emilion. Wines from the lesser known areas like this are good value as they are often overlooked, yet can deliver superb results especially in great vintages such as 1989.

One of the right bank 'Libournais' appellations, Côtes de Castillon is now just known as Castillon and lies south east of and not far from Saint Emilion. Satelite appellations such as this have been attracting increased attention in recent years as part of the growing international consumer demand for the wines of Bordeaux. The wines tend to be dominated by Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, sometimes with a slight influence of Cabernet Franc.

With three estates now to Baron de Montfort's name, Chateau de Monbadon itself was built in the early 14th century with Chateau Lagrange-Monbadon sitting at the base of the feudal castle, while Chateau du Rocher contains some of the oldest growths in Saint Etienne de Lisse. The clay and limestone soil at all three estates are perfectly suited for producing the Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc varieties that thrive in Bordeaux.

    Our Views

Really well-priced and from the excellent 1989 vintage. Baron de Montfort wines are well regarded.
