Superb. The levels are high and the labels are clean and undamaged.

Paul Jaboulet Aine is perhaps the most important producer in the Rhone along with Etienne Guigal. Between them, they produce a few legendary wines - in Jaboulet's case, the Hermitage La Chappelle which broke all records when a case sold at auction in 2007 for over a quarter of a million US dollars. They are a pretty amazing winery with their cellars located in huge caves hewn out of the wall of a mountain by the Romans. These caves are so vast that the Germans annexed them in the second world war to repair aircraft.

Their reds benefit enormously from ageing and this 1978 vintage is drinking superbly well.

    Our Views

It's hard not to get excited about a wine like this. From one of the greatest vintages for Jaboulet and a stone's throw from the legendary Hermitage La Chapelle, yet around a third of the price (for the same vintage)! The perfect gift for a wine lover.
