    About

Paul Jaboulet Aine is perhaps the most important producer in the Rhone along with Etienne Guigal. Between them, they produce a few legendary wines - in Jaboulet's case, the Hermitage La Chapelle which broke all records when a case sold at auction in 2007 for over a quarter of a million US dollars. They are a pretty amazing winery with their cellars located in huge caves hewn out of the wall of a mountain by the Romans. These caves are so vast that the Germans annexed them in the second world war to repair aircraft.

Located on prime sloped terraces, the vines for La Chapelle enjoy premium terrain and a perfect aspect. It is made with 100% Syrah from very low yielding vines which have an average age of 50 years. Hand harvested (the slopes are too steep for mechanical harvesting anyway), the grapes are then brought down the slopes on small sledges to the winery where they are sorted again by hand. The wine is typified by highly complex aromas, revealing the Syrah’s great finesse, black fruits, sweet spices, silky tannins and a very long finish. This 1973 vintage has recently had superb reviews, scoring an average of 92 points.
