Excellent all-round appearance.
Not made commercially until 1968, Sassicaia wasn't initially liked. Undiscerning wine buyers at the time didn't make the leap that this was a Bordeaux style 85% Cabernet Sauvignon made for cellaring. What a difference now - at a 1978 Decanter tasting of "great clarets", a panel including Hugh Johnson, Serena Sutcliffe and Clive Coates awarded the 1972 Sassicaia first place over a field of 33 wines from 11 countries. The wine is now so prestigious it has its own DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata).
The 1998 vintage scored 98 points by James Suckling as was described as 'The greatest Sassicaia since the legendary 1985.
The ultimate Italian Fine Wine. Need we say more?
