The vineyards for the Corton appellation are situated on a hill in the Cote de Beaune which shares three renown villages, Aloxe Corton, Pernand Vergelesses and Ladoix. There are numerous appellations, many of which are sub-regions known as 'lieu-dits' or 'climats', which can be anything from small communities to parcels of land and the names of which can derive from its former use, a past event or just the characteristics of the land. They are usually added to the name of the wine, e.g. Corton Les Bressandes or Corton Les Perrieres. This wine is a straight Corton (with no suffix).

As a vintage, 1959 was outstanding for both Burgundy and Bordeaux. With ideal weather conditions from budding to harvesting, crops were good and of a high quality. With a number of recent tasting notes, it is also clear that the wines from this vintage are still drinking well too.
