Not overly fruity like many New World Pinots, Urlar delivers real depth on a backbone of firm fruit and silky tannins. Closer to an expensive Burgundy with savoury, peppery overtones and a gentle spiciness. A wines that will please fans of Burgundy and New Zealand alike (especially at this price).

    About

We first tried this wine as a result of Angus Thomson's father asking us if we would try it. Angus and his wife Davina founded Urlar, so there was a hidden agenda for dad wanting us to stock the wine - he wanted to drink it too! With, only about one in ten wines that we try considered good enough to stock, it was a result to be able to list all of Urlar's wines. And of course, a family connection like this means preferential pricing, which we pass straight on to you.

Urlar Pinot Noir benefits from near perfect growing conditions. 25% of the juice is aged in French oak barrels and there is no fining or filtering. This lack of interference with the vinification results in a stunning wine with silky tannins, complex fruits and all-in-all, a very 'grown up' premium wine. Many of our customers now choose Urlar Pinot Noir over prestigious French appelations such as Nuits St Georges, red Beaune, etc.

    Ideal with...

A great match for slow cooked lamb, duck and chicken/pork casseroles. It is equally at home with the Sunday roast, creamy pasta and even meaty fish such as halibut.
